Changes In Islamic Slavery Reflect Cultural Decline

It is interesting to consider the changes that have taken place in Islamic coercive recruitment over the centuries. In Ottoman times, youngsters may have been abducted, but at least they were accorded some dignity and status later on when they were assigned their place in the Ottoman hierarchy. Today, they are exploited and degraded, a change that seems to reflect cultural devolution.
