It All DependsReader comment on item: On Recent Saudi Reforms: A Conversation Submitted by Barry Black (United States), Nov 22, 2017 at 09:51 Things are changing in Saudi Arabia----not because they want to, but because they have to----the world changes slowly, but it does change. Those that don't change are resigned to the dust-bin of history or at least as close as you get can! Since the beginning of the 20th century the Middle East has always been in a state of uncertainty and WW I and WW II cemented that uncertainty and things are no better at the beginning of the 21st century----just better weapons! Today we see the rise of another Persian empire----the Iranians have played their cards well securing strong influence in Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, and now Syria. Their main enemy used to be Iraq, but the USA foolishly eliminated that. Now their main enemy is Saudi Arabia, but in terms of military strength Iran holds the cards so proxy wars are a convenient avenue though costly. Israel can take a short step back and watch, but not too far back----danger lies ahead!
