Muslims identify themselves as 'atheists' in Muslim minority societiesReader comment on item: There Is an "Alliance between the Left and Islamists" Submitted by Prashant, Mar 7, 2018 at 22:25 Prashant, One more reason why Islamists and leftists connect in Muslim-minority societies is because at least some Muslims hide as atheists. It can never be verified but it can be true. These Muslims do not want to call themselves Muslims or else their credentials as modern refined people would be doubted. They also do not want to call themselves as non-Muslims because that requires courage. As atheists they can marry non-Muslim spouses and look modern to everybody. How do they get exposed then? The expose themselves by indulging in what we can call the Muslim-for-political-purposes and/or apologist behaviors. They will occasionally write articles about how their adopted societies needs to be more democratic, why the rights of all oppressed people including women are very important (but they will also never demand democracy in the Islamic lands.) Of course, when you start standing for oppressed people and start demanding more democracy in already democratic societies, who walks, talks, protests and sleeps with you? You got it right: the leftists. Hence the close relation between leftists and Islamists. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
