Melanie Phillips Argues We Americans Misunderstand Robinson's ArrestReader comment on item: Interview: Islamism's War on the West Submitted by Liz Wagner (United States), Jun 5, 2018 at 23:05 Mr. Pipes, I wonder if you had an opportunity to read the recent column by Melanie Phillips in which she argues we Americans have misunderstood British law relevant to the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of Tommy Robinson. If so, do you disagree with her take, and why? She writes about Robinson starting at paragraph #9 in this piece: http://www.melaniephillips.com/mob-hysteria-both-sides-aisle/ Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: Melanie is a friend and a writer whom I admire. But this is not one of her better analyses. For example, she elides over Tommy Robinson's being tricked out of legal counsel as well as the fact that he was reading from a BBC publication when arrested. Reader comments (7) on this item
