An additional take on the Venezuela situationReader comment on item: Venezuela's Tyranny of Bad Ideas Submitted by C Shipman (Japan), Aug 26, 2018 at 22:44 Funny, reading your article I couldn't help thinking something else. It goes without saying that Venezuela has been gutted. And the take from the rich and give to the poor form of socialism that Chavez championed no doubt played a role. But the corruption, the cronyism, the us vs them and, most importantly, the cult of personality that Chavez cultivated are the real causes of the decline. When the people follow a leader good or bad, regardless of the outcome because he's sticking it to the other side it never ends well. Chavez was a crook and a thug and a liar and everybody knew it. But he gave them loaves of bread. He gave them cheap gas, so as long as I'm getting something nothing else matters. Reminds me of a certain NY real estate developer and his apologists.
