Insecurity Due To American Non-Involvement A Huge ComplicationReader comment on item: If Trump Wants to Divide Jerusalem into Three Submitted by Dave (United States), Dec 21, 2018 at 10:57 Clearly, the US has Mideast fatigue from the squandering of so many resources on ungrateful and hopelessly uncivilized Muslim basket case states. That makes Trump's Syrian withdrawal proposal understandable, if inadvisable, in the light of Turkish, Russian and Iranian imperialism. Unfortunately, the vacuum that comprises the region's collapsed states is going to be filled by somebody: namely, the aforementioned powers who will advance in direct proportion to our retreat. This will be very intimidating to Israel, the Kurds, the Saudis, and other allies. Nervous Nellies are poor candidates for any scheme that requires concessions and trust, particularly one with a significant role for the "international community" or the blood-stained PA. Besides, the "international community" hasn't been exactly sympathetic to Israel, if those UN votes are any indication. My impression is that Trump is basically an isolationist with little interest in seriously studying foreign affairs, and just wants to apply a face-saving band-aid to a region with gangrene. It won't work.
