America's WeaknessReader comment on item: What If the United States Had Not Invaded Iraq Submitted by Walter (Canada), Sep 12, 2005 at 01:22 Before I make my comments regarding the US war in Iraq, I would like to point out that as a Canadian, I am a strong supporter of GW Bush and I have a great affection for patriotic Americans. Further more it is with great angst that I read the negative comments put forward by many Americans, particularly the media. In fact, I have come to believe that your nation's greatest enemies are in your own country and I mean American citizens who despise their own government. While your comments regarding the war in Iraq are correct, I think that you may have overlooked one major negative. That negative is the cost of the war. During the 90's, the US accumulated huge surpluses and not because of the presidency of President Clinton, perhaps in spite of. However, the war has cost the American treasury billions of dollars with the final costs numbering in the trillions. And of course that debt is going to cost the Americans billions in interest in years to come. Further more, as American Corporations rush to establish their factories and services off shore, they are depriving millions of Americans of jobs and exporting the ability to create wealth to other countries, mainly India and China. China is holding billions of American dollars and is interested in investing those dollars by purchasing American Corporations. Is it in America's interest, to have many of their corporations owned by China? Or have you considered the consequences of China changing their currency to the Euro and dumping the American dollars? The result would be disastrous for the economy to the point of bringing a depression to the US. The second point that concerns me is that the media continues to beat GW Bush over the death of 2000 American soldiers. Of course it is a tragedy, but at least these Americans died with honor. Why not rant over the traffic accidents that take over 50,000 lives a year or the 1000's of US citizens that die as a consequence of criminal activities? No other nation has contributed as much to the well being of the world as the Americans and no other nation has been so reviled. Like it or not, the well being of this world depends on a strong America, so why are we trying to destroy the one stabilizing force in the world today?
