Islamic invasions and the fate of the great cities of late antiquity and in this case the great city of Alexandria partReader comment on item: Siraj Wahhaj Seeks My Validation Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), May 19, 2020 at 15:56 Dr Pipes, The word العلم means the science and the term اهل العلم means the people of the sciences and عالم means scientist. However, the word العلم does not mean science the way we understand it. In 7th century, and afterwards, Alexandrian science was to study the book of Allah and later on the books of Islam! Nothing about real science be it physics, medicine or mathematics and if Allah says that the earth is flat then the earth must be flat. And one more reason why the fate of Alexandria after 642 AD was a tragedy in the making. Worse? The Muslim invaders of the city usurped the "opulent" churches of Alexandria and converted them to mosques and as an example the Church of St Theonas. It is now called the Mosque of the Thousands Columns. Haas tells us "the name itself speaks of the building's grandeur." In this case "opulence" of early Islam was the theft of the opulent Christian Churches. Can you imagine if Christians or Jews would convert a mosque into a church or a synagogue? We would be hearing about it ad nauseum. So much for the opulence of early Islam PS: One more time: without Jews and Persians and Nestorian Christians there would have been no Islamic civilization or even "opulence"
