The greatest contribution of the British to the human speciesReader comment on item: An American in Search of the English National Character Submitted by Stein (United States), Jan 24, 2021 at 10:22 The greatest contribution of the British to the human species was and is, the desire for a fair legal system. Even when the Brits were rotten imperialists, they still exported a relatively fair judicial process wherever they went. For this reason alone, every former imperial colony is a democratic nation today. (Hong Kong was and is in a weird situation.) Slavery is older than the Bible. The institution of slavery spread across all civilizations, from China to Scandinavia to Nigeria. Britain is one of the first nations to end slavery decisively. This gift to the human species too came from the British demand for fairness. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
