Off topicReader comment on item: Stupid Terrorists Submitted by A. Festine (United States), Oct 7, 2005 at 08:43 Dr. Pipes:This is not a comment on the stupid terrorists article. I write in the hope that you will soon give us your thoughts on the long overdue events of yesterday. President Bush as I am sure you know gave a speech in which he finally, and in my opinion much belatedly, identified the real enemy in this war in a way in which you and others with knowledge and insight have repeatedly insisted as being necessary. He actually spoke the words "global jihadism", "Islamofacism", and related the conflict to the other great wars and struggles of the twentieth century. The vapid phrase "war on terror" was not to be found. He actually acknowledged the obvious- that the Islamofacists are using terror as a tactic in futherance of their political goals- which do threaten the very existence of civilized society. In my view, he should have been saying these things for the past four years. This is World War III. We must acknowledge that. You and I probably won't live to see the end of it. Hopefully our children will. I'm sure you'll be writing an article soon in which you address this significant event and I look forward to reading it. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: This speech will be the topic of my next column.DP << Previous Comment Next Comment >> Reader comments (51) on this item
