Do You Still Believe It's A "Theory?"Reader comment on item: Augustin de Barruel Submitted by Roberta (United States), Sep 12, 2021 at 18:30 Mr. Pipes, this is communism: "The Jacobin conspiracy for him was directed not just against Catholicism, the French monarchy, and the landowners but against religion, government, and private property as such." To you still believe it to be a "crazed" study? The reprinted book is available at JBS.org. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: 1. I do still believe it's a theory and that it's crazed. 2. In 1797-98, communism does not yet exist. 3. JBS stands for John Birch Society. 4. Amusing to see that the John Birch Society does sell the Robert Clifford translation, 1798 second edition of the book in English with an introduction by Stanley L. Jaki, calling it an "invaluable resource for history fans and defenders of the Constitution." 5. For those wishing to acquire this book without supporting the John Birch Society, it is available gratis at the Internet Archive: https://ia801203.us.archive.org/24/items/BarruelMemoirsIllustratingTheHistoryOfJacobinism/barruel%20Memoirs%20Illustrating%20the%20History%20of%20Jacobinism.pdf Reader comments (4) on this item
