When Bush II ran for president, one respectable legacy newspaper ran an article on "Arab Americans for Bush", and interviewed a Pakistani immigrant--and Pakistanis are ethnically Indo-Aryan. It seems the writer and editors meant 'Muslim" and "Arab" as synonyms.
