Somewhat jokingly I say that...Reader comment on item: CAIR and American Islam Submitted by Prashant (United States), Jun 8, 2022 at 14:06 Dear Dr Pipes, Somewhat jokingly I say that there is a better way to debunk CNN's arguments defending Israeli Muslims who were shooting guns in Shireen Abu Akleh's vicinity. It is to focus on what Israeli Muslims were doing and should have been doing. Norma K's arguments, though cogent, will not be able to stand the leftist knee-jerk onslaught. I think Muslim Israelis should do STEM, compose good Music, play sports and do computer science. Overemphasis on religion is going to put them even more behind in the human race than they already are. If they want to try their hands at independence from Israel, they should first create a democratic society and a free-market economy within themselves. Attempts to create Islamic jamhooriats will make them just like Egypt, Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. If they collect some capital by virtue of the free market economy, with some luck, they might even be able to buy themselves a country from KSA, Syria, Jordan, or Iraq. CNN will, obviously, tell the Israeli Muslims how much injustice was done to them 3 generations ago but will never tell them the virtues of STEM, music, or any other thing of substance. If they cannot contain their love for guns and violence, I will ask them to try and raise an army of volunteers under a democratic command. For crying out loud if Hindus can produce a mathematician of Ramanujan's caliber under the British colonialism, why cannot Israeli-Muslims produce anything more useful than stone-pelters? Under Islamic tutelage, Ramanujan might have met the fate of a suicide bomber. Also, India was a full fledged democracy and a nascent free-market economy even in her colonial times. Muslims are so out of touch with what works and what doesn't. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
