An ultra-Orthodox Jew was attacked by an Arab on the Nablus road in Jerusalem, about a year ago. The Arab rioter kicked the Jew in the back until he fell to the ground, and fled the scene. He was convicted of causing actual racially motivated injury, and served an actual prison sentence. Now, the ultra-Orthodox Jew is filing a pending civil lawsuit against the attacker, for NIS 90,000.

According to the indictment, in the heart of the assailant, Nabil Shriteh, a decision to attack the Jew due to his being a Jew and out of a racist motive, without actually going through any legal process with him. The Arab started running towards the Jew, then jumped and kicked his back so hard that he fell on the pavement. As a result of the fall, the Jew suffered abrasions on his hand. Sarith and a friend who was with him fled the scene.

The Jew described the attack and said: "I left tomb of 'Shimon the righteous', I went to the station to check which line was there. I was standing with my back to the fence, two guys came, threw me on the floor. He kicked me, I don't know what he gave me, I flew on the floor. I'm shocked, I get up. I look and see two big scratches on my hand. I called the police... I talk to the policeman and then they arrested him."
He also said that "every time I come to the area and want to go to the tomb, I walk and look over my shoulder, I constantly check who is walking behind me, I also do this in all kinds of neighborhoods. When I walk in an ultra-orthodox neighborhood, then I say that I don't have to look back, no one I am not looked at with hostility. But when I walk in Sheikh Jarrah I constantly look back and if I see a man within a radius of 20 meters I follow him to see if he is looking for someone."
Shriteh was convicted of the crime of causing actual bodily harm with a racial motive...

The ultra-Orthodox Jew is pursuing a civil lawsuit against the attacker, for NIS 90,000.

Shriteh was convicted of the crime of causing actual racially motivated injury, and was sentenced to seven months of actual imprisonment, probation, payment of a fine, and payment of compensation to the Jewish victim.

As mentioned, the Jew has now filed a pending civil lawsuit against Shriteh, for the amount of NIS 90,0000 - for the pain and suffering he went through during the violent incident, the injuries he suffered, the feelings of terror and humiliation he felt when the attacker fled the scene and the consequences he carries with him to this day.

Attorney Ofir Steiner from the Honenu organization, which represents the Haredi who was attacked, said, "The offender who attacked a Jew on a racist-nationalist basis was convicted of a criminal offense, but that is not enough. Many times the demand for financial compensation is more influential and deterring than the criminal proceedings. Let's hope that compensation will be awarded as requested, and the terrorist will pay from his own pocket for the suffering he caused."
