Regarding the Mideast...Reader comment on item: Searching for Peace Submitted by David (United States), Oct 11, 2022 at 17:27 In other news, it's distressing to see the author almost entirely fail to comment in recent weeks on developments in the Mideast. For someone who has long advocated Israeli "victory" and chided Israeli governments for naively believing that paying their enemies can result in pacification, the silence on the impending efforts to give in to Hezbollah extortion, using resources within Israel's territorial waters no less, is defeaning. And the lack of any comment about the Biden administration's efforts to "reassess" relations with KSA, allegedly as a result of the Kingdom's unwillingness to reduce the price of oil (almost certainly as a consequence of the message received both before, during, and after Biden's visit to the region, to the effect that he will never, ever be prepared to take military action against the Iranian nuclear program), is doubly distressing. Institutional Washington, alarmingly including ostensible pro-Israel stalwarts in the Democrat party such as Robert Menendez, is galloping toward a wholesale abandonment of Arab countries that have notably warmed toward Israel in recent years. The consequences for Israel could not be more profound, and it is hard to think of a moment when the voice of a leading expert on the Mideast is more needed.
