Comparing Apples to OrangesReader comment on item: How Elijah Muhammad Won Submitted by Lin Orez (United States), Nov 29, 2005 at 16:30 Islam and its various sects is neither the Moorish Science Temple of America or the Nation of Islam. Orthodox Islam refers to the NOI as "Farrakanism" and shares almost as much with Islam as Mormonism does with Protestantism, the Moorish Science Temple of America shares nothing with Islam and other then that they call their religion Islamism even their "scriptures" the Koran is not the same as the Quran of Mecca rather it is a rehash of the "Aquarian Gospel of Jesus Christ" by Levi. The only contribution the NOI has to the growth of Islam in America is that it funded both Wallace D. Muhammad's and Malcom Little's air fare to Mecca where they embraced Islam and then returned to America to move that movement closer to Orthodox Islam. Farrakhan is now doing that again to some degree although not so much that it would lessen his financial hold on the people. Probably the greatest contributor to the growth of Islam in America is the failure of the Christian churches. First by segregating its churches and seminaries blacks were exposed to an often uneducated clergy who presented an innacurate and sometime corrupted gospel. Second by not reaching out to the poor and moving out of the inner city to the suburbs it neglected a people hungry both physically and spiritually. Finally, it failed to preached living a sanctified life. which Islam did and black males were becoming fathers and husbands, getting off of welfare, giving up gambling, smoking and drinking. Christian ideals rarely heard from the pulpits. I am a Christian, by the grace of God I heard an accurate and unadultrated gospel. But when I hear blacks describe their experiences in Christian churches I can see why they left.
