The door mats of Islam

Reader comment on item: A Pakistani Pater Familias

Considered collectively, items such as news stories about Nazeer Ahmed (these four daughters had a mother! Where was she?); other accounts of more traditional "honor killings" (these poor girls had mothers who presumably also gave birth to and nurtured the brothers who often commit the "honor" atrocities); television coverage of Palestinian women celebrating suicide deaths of their sons (who can forget the hate-propelled rant of such a mother declaring that if she 'had 100 sons she'd send them all out to kill until all Jews are dead'); the "loving mothers" who stuff their young daughters with food until their skin splits (like a process for fattening up geese for foi gras, see Daniel Pipes' archives), to make them "attractive" to men with apparent fat fetishes; and the general attitude of the women reflected throughout Daniel Pipes' analysis of "Egyptian Family Life in 1919;" one cannot help but to surmise that the apparent belief of these Muslim women in their own inherent inferiority is emphatically justified.

Dr. Pipes' depiction (analysis of "Egyptian Family Life in 1919) of men leaving their wives at home while they frolic with mistresses and whores was not, in 1919 or 1999, unique to Egypt or the Middle East, as anyone could figure out after spending a Saturday afternoon in an American beauty shop. But throughout history, unpleasant consequences for double standard behavior were being inflicted on husbands in the West. If nothing else, American wives taught their husbands the self-preservation value of discretion.

But it is as mothers fulfilling, or not, their fundamental obligation to the children to whom they give birth, that the East - West divide becomes incomprehensible. In the West, we expect greater maternal devotion from the females of any animal species in our zoos, than the apparent zombie presense of Muslim motherhood.
