Mr. SharonReader comment on item: [After Sharon:] Israeli Politics Will Revert to Its Past Submitted by James Biga (United States), Jan 5, 2006 at 11:26 Israel is at a major turning point of it's young life. If it continues to accomodate the Arabs it will commit suicide. History, not politics, show's what to expect if it continues to placate to terrorists. Mr. Sharon has gone soft. The Gaza pullout is a perfect display of this. The PLO is a dishonorable organization. It has no control over it's "own people". Hamas, Al-Aqsa, and the other factions hold the power. Mr. Sharon should have faced reality and put a stern foot down. 30 years ago he would have. Compromise and concessions only work if both sides are after the same results. Israel is willing to deal with a "Palestinian" country. The PLO is not willing to accept an Israel. In this situation any concession gives the enemy the leg up. the "Palestinian People" are convinced that there continuous terrorist attacks are working.Although Mr. Sharon's recent attempts at concilliation may appear noble, they have been misguided and lack realism. The "Palestinian People" are no more than cannon fodder being used by the rest of the Arab countries. Waiting for the EU or the US to work a deal with Iran is beyond blind romanticism. It's foolish. 30 years ago Mr. Sharon would not have stood for this. If Mr. Netanyahu gets another chance at Prime Minister, he will not make the same mistakes he did in his first term. He will HAVE TO live up to any promises he makes. If he doesn't he will be ostracized from Israeli public life forever. Mr. Sharon has been respectable to disrespectable people. He has been honest to liars. He has shown constraint while the enemy has attacked relentlessly. How many promises must be broken, and people murdered, before the gloves come off? 30 years ago Mr. Sharon would have known. The time for a centrist position has expired. Iran intends to eliminate Israel. It's leaders have stated this goal again and again. Hamas, Hizbollah, Al-Aqsa, and others intend to continue the war against Israel. The UN will not defend Israel, the EU is in bed with the Arabs, and the US is too busy with the under-construction road map. There is no repreive in sight. Politics has not worked, it's time for real action. 30 years ago Mr. Sharon would have know this.
