Maybe the right question to ask is what can we do about it?Reader comment on item: Are Muslim Americans Victimized? Submitted by Fauzia Mohamed (United States), Jan 8, 2006 at 17:47 Asaalam aleikum wa rahmatullah,I am a firm believer in changing the things I have control over and leaving the rest to Almighty Allah (swt). However, I also do know that there are things I can change such as allowing my self to be victimized due to my religion, sex gender, ethnicty e.t.c. I agree that we get vicitmized based on some of the factors noted above and others however, we cannot allow ourselves to wallow in misery just because we have a lable attached to us. To each his own but this is how I look at things. I have a choice in either getting used to the label and playing the "victim" or I can choose to educate the ignorant and miseducated people or I can choose to completely be ignorant. We should be proud at what makes us stand out such as our hijabs, kufis and so on but we also have a responsibility of upholding Islam's virtues so that those who are misguided can learn the beauty of our religion. Our religion is based on understanding and patience--so let's practise some of that. There are those in the bunch who will spoil it for others but we all play a part. Therefore we all should be held accountable for our actions or lack thereof.
