Saudi Arabia and its ilk or two evilsReader comment on item: The Mystical Menace of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Submitted by Ianus (Poland), Jan 17, 2006 at 16:02 >The US does not oppose Saudi Arabia. And up until 1979 when the despot Shah was removed in the Islamic Revolution, the US didn't oppose Iran either. What is more, during the Iran-Iraq war it provided much needed spare parts and weapons to Iran (Remember the Iran-Contra scandal?) and Iran's stand during the Afghan war is also ambiguous to me. It looks as if both the US and Iran had had common interests in the region - to oust the Soviets. By the way, wasn't it the US intelligence that gave the mullahs the necessary information to behead the Iranian Communist (Tudeh) party leaders and members?... >In fact, the US has promoted many tyrannical regimes and groups around the world when it suits its needs, such as Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Iran-pre 1979, Iraq when Saddam was busy gassing Kurds with US supplied weapons. If I am not mistaken the Soviets , the French and the Germans were as eager - and more successful - to sell their waepons and poison gases to Iraq as the US which did not have any diplomatic relations with Iraq between 1967 to 1984. > In turn it has opposed democracies when the leaders (who inevitably are demonised as dictators or worse) try to shake off the US yoke. The peoples of Venezuela, Iran again (post 1979) and Chile can all testify to the hypocrisy of US opposition. May I tell you a story from where live? I grew up in a country that belonged to the Soviet bloc. People here hated the Bolsheviks like hell. They recounted horrifying stories of Soviet imperialism and duplicity...What is Chile compared with the Russian Civil War horrors or the GULAG? ... If something wrong happened where ever it was the Soviet system to be blamed. Then one day day this cursed Soviet tyranny disappeared... And what do you think? Did the former Soviet world become a nicer place to live? Did peace , prosperity and justice prevail after the former masters and "oppressors" had gone?...On the contrary!...Carnage and real oppression started in the former Soviet Union ...in one Tadjikistan more people were murdered during a Muslim-inspired civil war than those Tadjiks killed during the whole WWII ; in the Caucasian region traditional Muslim banditism, slavery and kidnapping resurrected forbidden and abolished by the Soviets...Did Afghanistan become a paradise after the godless Russians had left?...The real disaster and salughter started after the Soviet withdrawal. To put it in a different way - the USA may be a bad peace-maker and unreliable administrator of this world. I readily admit it...But if Islam overcomes the USA it will be hell and chaos the world has not seen so far and all higher civilization either will disappear from this planet or will return to the Stone Age. Islam is incapable of any creative job and of solving any of the real problems humanity is facing . And its destructive potential is unimaginable! If it manages to dominate the world it will destroy it . America is a lesser evil and culturally so close to all of us. That's why I support it. Much to my dismay we are - alas- not given a comfortable choice between "good" and "evil". There is one evil against another. If you have not lost your senses you should know where you belong to and which evil is lesser. By pointing to one evil don't be so blind as not to see a much bigger evil of Islam. One more allegory. In Byzantine Palestine there were many discontented Jewish Samaritans who welcomed the invading Arab troops because they hated the Greeks so much that they couldn't even imagine that there would exist a more rapacious and more ruinous system of oppression than that of Byzantium. But soon they found out there would. They got disappointed and learned their lesson. Alas, they learned it too late. The Greek-Roman laws and taxes and Constantinopolitan orthodoxy might have been heavy and intolerable at times, but the sword of Islam proved to be destructive and lethal to them. >Americans are however already moving to Canada..... And Mexicans to the USA in thousands a day ...Don't they know that America has become worse than the regimes it opposes? Jan
