QuestionReader comment on item: Turkey's Radical Turn? Submitted by Bige Vona (United States), Feb 14, 2006 at 01:47 Maybe some one could solve this mystery. I certainly can not. If the purpose is to expand democracy through out the middle-east, why not support Turkey who has been a loyal ally of US from Korea to Timur in every conflict US has been involved in until second Iraq war., when due to economic self preservation stayed neutral......with trade agreements, support against terrorism, same type of loans given to Israel. It seems to me it would be a better way of going to war to make iraq that example of democracy. After all there is an example of 80 year democracy which would improve under certain condition rather than create worries if radicalism. Turkish history recent and all the way back to Ottoman empire shows more signs of democracy and desire to improve on that democracy than any of its neighbours. Yet.........
