to OctavioReader comment on item: West Africa - Europe's New Border Submitted by Sidda (United States), Mar 29, 2006 at 17:41 Octavio, you are so right in your analysis. We the people are up against the more powerful interests of the globalists and open borders far left. You were right about the Wall Street Journal. They used to always have editorials about open borders, then after 9/11 they had to tone it down. But it is surely their position.I was so frustrated this weekend as I sat watching the demonstration by the illegals on tv. They were demanding their rights and chanting, "Mexico, Mexico, Mexico." What rights?? You're in the country illegally--you broke the law!! Add to that all the Mexican flags flying and the t-shirts with Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Hugo Chavez. Granted, they were not in the majority, but they were there. And what's up with the freakin Mexican flag?? At the bottom of all this is our cowardly politicians. They KNEW we had a problem clear back in the 80's when Ronald Reagan gave amnesty to the illegals then. But, they did NOTHING to remedy the situation and it just continued to get worse. So, here we are. Half of the Republicans are in open revolt against Bush and his "guest worker" program. If that is seen as amnesty, I can just hear all the suitcases snapping shut south of the border. There will be no keeping them all out. And you brought up an excellent point about the governments of the countries the people are fleeing not doing anything to improve their circumstances. The Mexican government WANTS to send all of their people here; this way they don't have to worry about them. We are their "safety valve." If we stopped this massive exodus from their country, maybe the people would get angry enough at their governments to demand reform. Also, many Mexicans come here and make their money and send it back to Mexico. So, the money is going to Mexico, not staying here. Look, we are not anti-immigrant here. We want people to come, but we want it done in an orderly, legal fashion. If there are jobs here, and the Mexicans want to come to work, I think we should work out some kind of orderly system for them to do it. I am even willing to allow the people who are here to stay, provided they pay a fine and meet some other conditions to be set by our government, as long as they CONTROL THE BORDER, and stop the flow of more illegals. That position is not popular with conservatives (but I'm not a conservative!). Then we could deal with those people, and set a policy for future guest workers. But, nothing can work if they don't shut down the border. And I think our politicians are too cowardly to do the right thing. Oh, and it would be good for the Mexican groups such as MECHA and LaRaza to stop preaching their Mexican separatist garbage. They think that the whole Southwest belongs to Mexico anyhow and it is the "reconquista." That isn't sitting well with us either. I hope someone can do something before the shotguns start coming out. I try not to be pessimistic, but I don't have any reason to be overly optimistic either. We are up against some pretty power special interests. The only bright spot for us is that our immigration dilemma does not exacerbate the Islamist threat (except in the sense that chaos at the border increases our vulnerability to terrorism) as it does for Europe.
