And when I thought Canada was waking up...Reader comment on item: Canada's Muslims Provide "Strategic Advice on Relations with the Muslim World" Submitted by van der Ley (Canada), Apr 13, 2006 at 00:05 ... you had to deliver such a blow! I have to agree with some of the other posters, that much of the "sitting-on-the-wall" Canadian policies and its endless flirtation with Islam is pretty much a cowardly act of self-preservation; but I definitely expected more from Harper's government. It is particularly disturbing to see that a segment of Canadian society that represents perhaps 2.5% of the population (from the figures reported in www.parl.gc.ca/InfocomDoc/Documents/37/ /parlbus/commbus/house/reports/faitrp01/faitrp01-e.pdf) is now entitled to heavily influence the country's foreign policy. I bet that if the Canadian government had assigned a permanent-resident American (or a dual-citizen…) to deal with Canadian-American trade issues (softwood comes to mind…) you would see the union boys and lumberjacks pulling double-shift on the border crossings. Either Canadians know something the rest of the world doesn't (and ** please ** don't reply with multicultural "Trudeauims"), or their collective head is too deep in the sand.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
