Is "Islamism" the right term?Reader comment on item: America's Rude Islamists Submitted by tomkow (United States), Jun 13, 2006 at 15:40 It seems to me that a lot confusion the issue of terrorism would change if we stopped calling the enemy "Islamists" and started calling them "Wahabists". The later, unlike the former, has a clear locale, agenda, sponsor and identifiable agents. "But what about Iran?" You say. But the *Iranians* are not paying for the madrassas and the imams and the mosque takeovers that are spreading Jihadist ferver to America and Europe. I"m sure the Iranians sponsor *Iraqi* terrorists but the youth who sets off the bomb in London, New York in toronto is very much more likely to have been indoctrinated, if not trained, by someone whose funding traces to the Saudis. Refusing to call the movement by its proper name seems to me to be a device for letting "our friends the Saudis" and Bush policy towards them-- off the hook.
