The greatest humanist of all

Reader comment on item: Kurt Vonnegut, "Peace Activist," Lauds Suicide Bombers

Submitted by Brad (United States), Jun 15, 2006 at 13:32

There are so many American people that naively believe that America has never done any wrong in the world. Of course, our policies and actions have had brutal effects on different people throughout the world. Anyone who doesn't understand this has never done a serious or honest reading of the history in the Middle East or even closer to home in Latin America. And when they attack us or hate us, it is not because they hate our freedoms or way of life. They hate us and want to kills us because our country's greed leads us to trample on people in far away lands as if they are not human, nobody's.

When someone like Vonnegut calls attention to the darker side of America, he is instantly labeled as a nut or blasphemous by knee-jerk mouths spewing out years of indoctrination and mindless, unquestioning patriotic babble.
