PBS- IslamReader comment on item: Debating PBS's "Muhammad" Documentary Submitted by Carl (Canada), Dec 20, 2002 at 10:57 Did you see Frontline on PBS lastnight ? The program was entitled 'Moslems'.It really is odd ! It is odd that PBS would air the subject of Islam at Christmas time of the year. The first night they aired 'Mohammed: Legacy of a Prophet' - which was well-stuctured propaganda or designed to bevery proslyetizing to Americans. The program's spokepersons depicted everything about the religion and its prophet in a positive light when historical records will show for certain that its founder was no great humanitarian and peacemaker. They ought to get the viewpoints of a few brave muslim dissidents or two who do not fear for their lives in speaking up. Then PBS aired another 2 hour program on 'Islam' last night called 'Moslems'. For certain, this time around 'Frontline' was more balanced in showing what the more fanatical adherents of that religion believe and the damage it has done. I understand that PBS was trying to inform and promote understanding and tolerance of the religion. Islam however, deserves an honest investigation and should be examined with a critical eye - as Christianity and Judaism has been. The historical record of that religion will show that it had a very bloody past with much blood on its hands. Jews and Christians were persecuted or treated as second class citizens with special taxes imposed on them because of their beliefs. Some of those injustices still occur today in Islamic countries as Christian and Jews are attacked or killed. It may be a very universal religion appealing to all, but it certainly is not a tolerant one when people fear for their lives in speaking up. -carl Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
