Not sure about this one...Reader comment on item: Cutting-Edge Measures to Cope with Immigration Submitted by Graham (Australia), Aug 11, 2006 at 18:23 Although I'm a supporter of strong border protection, I think that there is too much potential for systemic abuse on these ships. Its too far away from scrutiny by other authorities and the staff culture could quickly become one of brutal institutionalisation due to the extreme isolation - i.e. the staff wouldn't be going home to their family at the end of the day. As an Australian, I wouldn't mind paying extra taxes to humanely treat illegal aliens - and then boot them out. There is no need to terrorise them as well.
