I am just so relieved. . .?!?Reader comment on item: It Takes a Ph.D. in Political Science … Submitted by Richard C. Kress (United States), Sep 30, 2006 at 16:11 It is just a whiff of pure oxygen when members of the academy weigh in on matters of international consequence. As I am one of them, I suppose I will, also. Apparently, the Muslim population, now increasing exponentially in parts of Europe and elsewhere, will not and cannot create any disequilibrium in any particular society, community or nation because they are of a "highly decentralized" order of "religion". That population is composed of fractious and restive groups within groups and, according to these scholars, any "bloc" whose purpose would be to attack, decimate(a word of particularly repugnant significance here) or "transform" could never coalesce, by definition!!! What then would be its ostensible effect? I seem to recall several instances over the past decade and a half in which "large scale collective action" has had something of a devastatingly consequential effect on London, New York, Spain, Bali . . . But, I am, of course, misunderstanding and overstating the matter. These were, after all, only isolated incidents and in no way reflect the essence of Islam. As I said I am just so relieved to know that there could never be any cohering force gathering regardless of how large the Muslim populations become. The worst thing that could happen, I assume, is that the rest of us will simply witness a bunch of harmless squabbling zealots (times five-hundred) just trying to refine their already delicate sensibilities. I am sure that they can then "sublimate" all that "outrage" and disperse it even more efficiently among themselves (the real "victims") as well as the rest of us. . . If only the illumining of Sharia "law" and the radiant effulgence of Wahabbism could bathe us all in the reflected sheen of Mohammedan light. . . Just ask Nick Berg!!!!! WE ARE AT WAR. Richard C.
