Dear Sirs;

I am shocked at your decision to apply a "two-light" system on taxis at the Minneapolis-St Paul airport MSP.

This goes against the very fiber of the Constitution that guarantees religious freedom in the United States and is an EXTREMELY dangerous precedent.

Why should a traveller be inconvenienced by someon elses religious beliefs. We all know that many many travellers buy duty free alcohol. If some person has a revulsion for alcohol or has a religious basis on which to shun alcohol, then perhaps they should not be working in a place where alcohol is served or is present.

What if a Moslem man was working as a busboy, waiter, or maitre d' at a restaurant in a hotel . Should we allow that person to dictate an overhaul in the dining facility insofar as there should be an alcohol free zone or else they wont serve the patron their cheeseburger? AND should they be allowed, on the basis of freedom of religion, to hire a labor lawyer to sue the hotel and penalize the hotel if they are let go or suffered other monetary loss, (like no tips).

If one were a recovering alcoholic, perhaps they should NOT get a job in a neighbourhood pub or at a liquor store. But to say that a Moslem working at Safeways has a right not to checkout a customer or to refuse to carry out their bag because they purchased alcohol flies in the face of what religious freedom means. In fact, it turns it precisely on its head.

Do you really believe that "equal opportunity due to religious beliefs" means that we should close the pub if a Moslem wants to work there? Should Safeway stop selling alcohol, or have only Christians (Or Jews) work in the "filthy disgusting booze section"? Could you really see an interview for hiring a checkout persoon.. "By the way are you Moslem? O, thanks for telling me, because we can't hire you due to your religious beliefs, because we sell alcohol." Should we have a "back of the bus" for anyone carrying home a six pack of beer if the bus driver or street car operator is Moslem?

This is absurd, and very FRIGHTENING !!

Would you have a two light system if the cabby were Jewish and refused to take anyone in the cab with a ham sandwich?..if the cabby was a Christian fundamentalist and refused to sit in the cab with a gay couple holding hands?? THAT is religious discrimination, not the other way around.

If you believe abortion is murder, would you take a job in an abortion clinic then demand they stop performing operations due to your religious beliefs??

This a perversion of justice ...and, kind sirs, I believe the only reason you have come up with this "compromise" is your intense fear that if you do not surrender to these islamo-fascists they will slash the tires of the other cabbies, they will create strikes , bomb-scares, or other nuisances to disrupt the normal flow of cab traffic.

Admit it. Better to cave in on this than cause a kefuffel.

Except what you don't realize is that you have just emasculated (apologies to the feminists..no sexism intended)and eviscerated a basic tenant of religious freedom in America. Religious freedom means that one should not be penalized for worshipping ( or choosing NOT to worship) the Almighty in his chosen religion. Why would you allow a cabby to deny service to an unwed mother , to a woman in a mini skirt with cleavage showing, to a Christian Minister with a large Crucifix on their neck, in short, to anyone who doesn't share their own belief system.

If one chooses to work in the service industry, the rights of the individual to obtain that service must be protected and guaranteed. If one has chosen to serve the public, it MUST be as the public is, not as he selects the righteous from the unrighteous public.

Have these fellows establish a MOSLEM CAR SERVICE that only takes people dressed the right way with no booze, and who can swear allegiance to the principles of Islam before they get into the cab. Now that would be religious freedom...to run a cab company for the people (Moslem) of the people (Moslems) and by the people( Moslems).

If not, these cabbies might deliver the ultimate threat...they will leave Minneapolis, indeed, they will leave the United States and go work in a proper Islamic state where they will really be appreceated. Naturally side arms, suicide bomb belts and ball bearing incendiary devices are allowed.

Wake up people. You are getting creamed. Take a stand. Save America before you allow it to become a whimpering cowardly after- thought in History. There is a war on terror going on. This is part of that war.

Dr. Ken Goldberg
