Sad but trueReader comment on item: Attack U.S. and Win Aid Submitted by Gibreel Gibreel (United Kingdom), Jun 12, 2002 at 13:12 This article is an unfortunate reflection of reality.Administration after administration has allowed the U.S. to be the world's whipping boy. Tin-pot dictators and terrorists queue up to verbally bash and physically assault the U.S., knowing full well that at worst they will be ignored and at best rewarded. It reminds me a little of the abused wife syndrome. The wife of an abusive husband regularly receives a verbal or physical hiding, but she cannot bring herself to leave, and sometimes goes as far as to defend her husband's actions with the words: "… he doesn't mean it; he loves me". Of more interest is that while the U.S. pledged $297 million in the first year and Britain £200 million over the next five years, Arab and Muslim countries have been less forthcoming. I believe the most generous Arab contribution was that of the United Arab Emirates at $20 million, a pathetic amount when one considers the oil wealth of the Gulf States. These same Arab and Muslim countries that shout about Muslim brotherhood and how they stand united against the attempts of the "decadent West" and "Satanic America" to conspire against them and Islam. Yet when it comes to financial aid for their "Muslim brothers" they are conspicuously silent; they look to the "decadent West" and "Satanic America" to clean up the mess, usually created by them in the first place.
