Reader comment on item: Giuliani's Fresh Start

Submitted by Ian Campbell (United Kingdom), Oct 18, 2007 at 04:48

I understood that the term described former left wingers who had 'smelt the coffee' and adjusted their thinking and politics to becoming 'of the right' but, like most converts, with a forthright zeal for their new found home. In other words they are a separate and identifiable group who are not entirely trusted by the traditional right and are loathed by the left for their betrayal.

Nonetheless they have given the right momentum in ideas and conviction and Bush has given them space in his presidency - with the consequences we see that are common among our experience of all politicians, good in parts and blind in others.

Mr Pipes, you can and should argue your lack of neo-conservatism (by this definition anyway) more vigorously. Your consistency and clarity in your arguments, if it can be repeated by Giuliani, is what will make your input to the 2008 election extremely important.
