Bush as a "Unitificator with Results"Reader comment on item: Annapolis [Conference] Blues Submitted by Charles Martel (United States), Oct 26, 2007 at 11:18 I have to agree with Steve and disagree with Dr. Pipes on Bush. I believe he has surpassed LBJ as the most destructive president in history. (People say Carter was the worst, and perhaps as a person he is, but he was feckless in failure except giving away the Panama Canal.) LBJ's Great Society and Bush's open-border policies have had the same kind of dreadful demographic results for our country. Likewise, Vietnam and Iraq have been divisive, ultimately pointless foreign policy disasters. The only distinctions on those two issues, to me, are that LBJ genuinely wanted to help impoverished fellow Americans with the Great Society, and Vietnam wasn't really LBJ's idea (although he certainly handled it badly.) Bush is trying to help illegal immigrants and Iraq was uniquely his idea in the sense that no other president would have conflated Saddam with real (and unrelated) issue of radical Islam and radical Islamic terror. BUT -- who can say Bush hasn't united the country? I read Steve's attack on Bush with delight that turned to astonishment when I got to this paragraph: I am ashamed that I voted for Mr. Bush in 2000 here in Florida along with perhaps tens of thousands of Muslims in our state, thus handing this compromised personal friend of the Saudi royal family a victory. I do not believe historians will rate this president or his presidency a success, but an utter failure. I infer from this that Steve is a Moslem who voted for Bush and thinks he's horrible president. Here I am, a very anti-Moslem Christian who can write exactly the same paragraph, mutatis mutandis: I am ashamed that I voted for Mr. Bush in 2000 here in my state along with perhaps millions of Christians in our state, thus handing this compromised personal friend of the Saudi royal family a victory. I do not believe historians will rate this president or his presidency a success, but an utter failure.Bush is so stupid he probably doesn't even understand the threat the Islam poses in our country and all over the world. However, IF he understands and picks his incest with the Saudis instead, he is EVIL. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
