A Western Ally ?Reader comment on item: Turkey, Still a Western Ally? Submitted by Dagistanli (Australia), Dec 11, 2007 at 06:12 It's about bloody time the Turks stood proud and tall as they did the last few centuries .. Dr Pipes question on whether the Turks are still allies is quite obviously a perpetuation of the arrogance of the Western thinking towards Turkey. It is an insult to the Turks not being treated as equals for over half a century, especially with the Europeans not being very hospitable towards an "Ally" with their exclusively Christian club. The Western idea of friendship and alliance is nothing more than a continuation of a subservient Turkey waiting for the crumbs to be spared from the Western table.. I'd say it's much better to be masters of the Islamic world than the increasingly patronizing west. Pride is a very strong feeling and even the secular like myself have had enough BS to last for a lifetime !! Time for the Turks to form a new alliance with the East, as for the West, they had their chance to accommodate and they blew it !!!!
