Moderate vs. Militant IslamReader comment on item: Pentagon Jihadis Submitted by Ezra Chall (United States), Sep 30, 2003 at 23:58 You always stress that we should make a distinction between moderate and militant Islam. This makes sense in terms of foreign policy. But it is a luxury we can not afford in domestic poicy. Why? That is because the moderate immigrants are just as dangerous in their own way as the militant ones. They may want to fit in with the American Way of Life, but they bring with them all of their political and cultural biases. The law requires that all lobbyists of foreign powers must register. However when these immigrants become citizens and vote, they become in essence unregistered agents of foreign powers. Thus the overwhelming sentiment of the Muslim- American organizations was against the Gulf and Iraqi wars. Prior to the Gulf War, congress was split 50-50. If there were a few million more Muslim citizens, Kuwait would still be occupied. And if there were even more, we would have joined Hussein and attacked Israel. It takes an immigrant from one to four generations to begin thinking like an American, bereft of all foreign nostalgia and influence. This is true of all immigrants. Why did Pres. Roosevelt have such a hard time to re-arm the U.S.? Besides the isolationists, he had to contend with the ethnic German,Irish and Scandinavian voting blocs who followed the lead of their home countries. Likewise, currently, who controls foreign policy towards Cuba, Americans or Cuban-Americans? Therefore, the solution is to ban all immigration. This would ease security problems, as well as over-development,urban sprawl, gridlock, environmental damage, school overcrowding, high taxes and housing prices, water and oil shortages, and ethnic bloc voting. The current emphasis on multi-cultural diversity is misplaced. it only exacerbates narrow interest group voting. What we need is assimilation, which can not proceed under massive and illogical immigration. Immigration is killing the goose that laid the golden egg-witness California. The car culture can not exist within in a billion population country. Politicians will cater and pander to ethnic blocs for short-term advantage as against long term considerations. Even Pres. Bush is guilty of this in regard to American-Muslims. He set the tone for the entire governmental apparatuses' accomodation of the so-called moderate Muslims-with the consequential security breaches. It is useless to appeal to the moderates to stand up against the militants, because their hearts are in the same direction. They won't throw a bomb, but will use the vote and money as the weapon.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
