birth defectsReader comment on item: Islam Drives the Social and Legal Agenda in the West Submitted by Kiwi (New Zealand), Jul 4, 2008 at 02:13 My sister worked in the health sector in UK. The statistics from cosanginious marriages are quite horrific - but if it is the first time cousins marry the deformities and genetic illnesses do not seem to present so much. It is, particularily in the Pakistan communtity where intermarriage has been practised for many years, now becoming a huge problem. The last stats. she quoted me were 30% of mentally and/or physically handicapped children are muslim yet they constitute less than 2% of the population. It causes a huge drain on the socialised health system. Unfortunately many muslims return to their home countries where they marry whom they are told to, half of whom don't have birth certificates or any genealogical records. But as she says, they don't want to hear and will not listen. In'shallah!. One of her clients had an extremely deformed baby and when they explained to the parents that this was the result of years of cousin/uncle etc. marriage patterns (which they admitted to following) they totally ignored her advice not to have any more children as exactly the same thing would happen. But, there they were the next year and the second child had exactly the same deformities (no eyes, no ears). She retired last year but expects that this couple, even after extensive counselling will continue trying to have a perfect child. The awful bit is that their muslim community expects women to produce children at a huge rate and now polygamy is legal for some (with the second, third and fourth wife receiving govt. benefits) this appalling drain on the British taxpayer is escalating at a huge rate. For all their poor sad lives they will exist at the British non-muslim taxpayers expense. Of course the Labour govt. do not want to know anything about it, all they can see is a future socialist voter, no matter how damaged they are. And it does not have to happen! It should not happen! My sister knocked her head against a brick wall for years before she finally had to admit it was a useless battle against an ignorant ideology and an uncaring govt. not wanting to rock the boat in muslim electorates. Again, many of the mental handicaps are not picked up at birth but only appear when they start school or at puberty when the children can become socially and sexually aggressive. Thank heavens the 15th century Pope (whoever he was) banned these marriages which at the same time resulted in less tribal control and large land holdings ending up in the hands of those less than capable of governing them (with the exception of some of the Royal families). But with reforms such as this democracy was enabled and the European Royals faded into mere showpieces. Unfortunately however, the wealthy tribal leaders, despots and dictators remain within the Islamic system which seems incapable of reforming itself and giving every child a chance.
