Submitted by jennifer solis (United States), Aug 14, 2008 at 20:34 It's a novel - that's why Muslims would be outraged. Only THEY are allowed to make up stories about Muhammad. Dr. Pipes got the last laugh reg. The Rushdie Affair - it went on to be a #1 bestseller, I do believe - "not profitable", indeed. Take a look at what's on the NY Times bestseller list now - it's amusing - the lines between fiction, and non-fiction, and novels are often blurred - I submit the following: Paperback non-fiction, August 17, 2008 - #1. Three Cups of Tea (Penguin $15.) - A former climber builds schools in rural villiages in Pakistan and Afganistan. Weeks on list: 79 #5. Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (Citadel, $12.95) - Reflections of a self-absorbed, drunken womanizer. Weeks on list: 44 #10. Marley and Me (Harper, $13.95) - Lessons learned from a nuerotic dog. Weeks on list: 21 #15. Generation Kill (Berkley Caliber, $15) - The story of the marines of the First Reconnaisance Battalion, an early combat unit in Iraq. Weeks on list: 3 #20. Infidel (by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Free Press, $15) - A memoir by the Somali-born advocate for Muslim immigrant women. Weeks on list: 10 It's not only what they're not publishing that's a disgrace, it's what the are. Lines are blurred between truth and fiction - and novels - thank GOODNESS we have minds like Dr. Pipes to set the record strait. Keep up the excellent work, Dr. Pipes. In a sea of subjectivity (and cowardice), you are the beacon of reason. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
