Fusion ParanoiaReader comment on item: [Michael Barkun on] Old Conspiracies, New Beliefs Submitted by Arlinda DeAngelis (United States), Feb 4, 2004 at 20:36 At one time conspiracy theories revolved around the neighborhood. Then there were the conspiracies that revolved about the country. The KKK blamed the Jewish bankers for taking over the world in secret. Then there was the national conspiracy theories on the JFK assasination from the Mob to the guy on the grassy knoll along with the aliens in a garage in Roswell and a UFO parked in an Airforce parking lot, or is it the other way around. Now we have the world wide conspiracy theories fused with old conspiracies to relate to the horrible events of today. Somehow these new theories are less silly and more deadly. The Jews are always around to blame something on, the Americans are responsible for September 11th and Bush went into Iraq to steal the oil. I'm waiting for the theory that Ariel Sharon controls America and not Dick Cheney. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
