Americans must stay awake

Reader comment on item: Are We Safer?

Mr. Pipes,

Once again, you are correct. I remember Carter's failed attempt to rescue the hostages and the broken cable that caused the deadly helicopter collision. I am sure that the terrorists of the day were praising Allah when the real culprit was a poorly prepared, underbudgeted military. My brother was a sailor in the Navy in 1985 and I remember that other young sailor, a devout Christian, and how he was ruthlessly killed by terrorist Islamists. I wanted to go over there and rip them limb from limb. I saw our government do nothing. I have a nephew in the Navy now. He could be shipped to Rota, Spain in 6 months. As you mentioned, this was also a previous target of militant Islam.

I hope Americans will wake up. It seems that the slumber has already taken place, less than a year after the largest assault on Americans, civilians at that, ever. Militant Islam must be stamped out like lice or vermin. Otherwise, they will continue to spread and multiply until they will become a force too large to stamp out. America is a great nation and should realize that we are again at war. Not at a video game where every body goes home safe at the end with a few less quarters, but a real war that must be fought and won! If we do not support Israel in their fight against terror then we cannot expect to win our war against it either. We have to recognize the enemy for who he is, call him out by name, and then wipe him off of the face of the earth.

Anything less will require going back and doing the job over and over again. Keep up the good work of letting Americans know we are at war. Lest we forget again.
