It all started with Oil Embargo of 1973Reader comment on item: Arabs, Israelis, and Underdogs Submitted by B.N.Gururaj (India), Apr 5, 2009 at 10:43 Close to four decades back, Islamic terrorism was not a very serious problem, barring of course the 1967 Israeli Arab war and 1972 Munich Olympics massacre and some hijackings. Suddenly, the oil rich Arab countries their power when in 1973, they decided to impose Oil Embargo. Thereafter, there has been no looking back for Islamic militancy. With this oil money, Saudi Arabia has been the single most important financier for Islamic adverturers world over, including India, where Islamic fundamentalist organisations receive finances through various channels. Therefore, one can reasonably expect that this run of Islamic terorrism will continue as long as the Arabs do not exhaust their oil reserves and riches. Once that is over, would Arabia return to poor old days and sanity? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
