Saudi Funding of Middle East ExpertsReader comment on item: The Saudis' Covert P.R. Campaign Submitted by Rory Nuriel (United States), Aug 10, 2004 at 09:38 Dear Dr. Pipes,This is an utterly appalling situation and I think it might be interesting to find out if there are other former Ambassadors who receive similar payments. I've seen interviews with some of these diplomats, who blame everything on America (and Israel, of course) in their zeal to polish up the image of despotic regimes like Syria and Iraq. I used to think it was just a manifestation of a State Department mentality, but now I wonder if it's something more. I think you're doing a critically important service by bringing this to the attention of the public. We've all seen these people, on various networks, being touted as Middle East Analysts, without realizing that their "expert" opinions are possibly being influenced by Arab money. Thanks for another job well done. Rory Nuriel Greenlawn, New York
