.. The discussion was *about* US-Muslim relations. He didn't say that good US-Muslim relations were the most important and valuable feature of the world of 1989. He didn't even mention the year 1989, just "20 or 30 years ago", a period which starts with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and ends with the Soviet withdrawal! Please try to make your big-picture connections a little more carefully in future.
