One possiblility on why the flight went down

The answer is simple, even if not in accord with Western logic.
They hate us more than they love life, which is the definition of a suicide bomber.

to restate it with greater neatness:
A suicide bomber is one whose hatred is greater than his love for his own life.

another proverb for Iraq may be:

The enemy of my enemy is my enemy.
