moderate Islam???Reader comment on item: Moderate Islam: Western Ally or Western Myth? Submitted by Paul Winter (Australia), Dec 29, 2009 at 08:02 I agree with Ms Sultan, who as (or formerly) a Muslim, would have a better grasp of the problem of Islamism. While I know many good people who identify themselves as Muslim, I contend that the categories of good person and "good" Muslm are mutually exclusive. A "good" Muslim is a Wahabi. The reason Ms Sultan is right is that within the Muslim world oneupmanship regarding being a "good" Muslim prevails. Anything goes as long as it is in the name of Islam and what is taking place is power challenging to replace the current power holders. This retreat into a pseudoreligion is supplemented by violence against moderates, modernisers, non-Muslims and women. Islam always had at its heart an agenda for brutal conquest under the guise of a religion. Until the West violently beats the Islamists, moderates and modernisers will remain silent and support the "strong horse" of the jihadis. And at the moment, the West is deluding itself into thinking that appeasement and diplomacy will work. Sadly, Sultan is right.
