According to the Bible Christians must kill.........?????????Reader comment on item: Moderate Islam: Western Ally or Western Myth? Submitted by Jim Beam (Germany), Dec 31, 2009 at 17:39 If the Bible is commanding Christians to kill where are all these Christian killers who are killing their mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters and using the words of Jesus to justify their actions? I don't know of any and I have been attending church since I was a child. I have never heard of such a Christian "killing for Jesus" killing. I'm sure you can give me an example to back up your argument. Please also give us just one of your "many, many equivalents" from the Bible apart from the one following to which I refer; it can't be hard to do if they are so numerous as you claim. I know of the place in the Bible where Jesus says "he who does not hate his father and mother is not worthy of me", but even if it could be interpreted as a command to hate as the word is commonly understood is this a command to kill? Surely not. If hatred is equivalent to killing then we must all be tried and punished as murderers and incarcerated or worse for the crime. Who has not hated someone at sometime in their lives? The key to the correct interpretation of these words of Jesus is to consider what comes at the end, namely " and his own life also ". To put the whole verse in context "If anyone come to me and hate not his father....................yea and HIS OWN LIFE ALSO, he cannot be my disciple". To interpret this as a command to kill is to make nonsense of Jesus words. The would-be disciple would have to kill himself after wiping out his family and then how could he become Jesus disciple, being dead? Of course Christians interpret these words to mean that Jesus demands a love which subordinates even the strongest family ties for his sake.
