Bring it into perspectiveReader comment on item: More Muslim "Hate Crime" Myths Submitted by Optop (Canada), May 6, 2010 at 11:18 Based on an estimated 350 anti-Muslim hate crimes: If one considers the population of the United States in 2007 (about 310,000,000), 350 hate-crimes seems like a very small number and certainly not indicative of a problem at large (roughly 1 anti-muslim hate crime to a million people). In fact it is surprisingly small considering the physical and verbal attacks on the USA by Islamic-based government, organizations and individuals and considering the wars in the Middle East that has to date claimed over 4400 American lives. Lets bring the 350 anti-Muslim hate crimes into perspective : If there are 6,000,000 Muslims in the USA and 350 legitimate hate crimes, this indicates that approximately 0.0058% of the Muslim population that is affected. Not a significant number. There are far more serious hate crimes committed in the United States: There were over 16,000 murders in the USA in 2007, or almost 47 people murdered for every anti-muslim hate crime. There were over 230,000 sexual assaults on women during the same period, or 657 sexual assaults for every anti-muslim hate crime. What does one think should have priority? Murder, rape or someone overstepping their freedom of expression?
