Islam meets the worldReader comment on item: Separation of Civilizations Submitted by PPS (United States), May 21, 2010 at 03:22 Dear Dr Pipes: In almost the second decade of this century, we are living in the greatest of times. In 1984 through Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev , communism met the world. A little before that communism was causing the biggest challenge to the modern world. Today Islam is meeting the world. The fight is a little tougher because Islam --the econo-political system-- comes mingled with Islam --the religio-social system but the fight is certainly happening. You see, we have a Muslim miss America whose biggest crime is performing on a stripper 101 contest. The non-muslims do not know whether to love her or hate. And the Muslims don't know it either for they don't know whether she needs a burka or just a pair of pants will do. And, after she wins the competition she asks for a Pizza! I do not care to love her or hate but as a phenomenon I could not be happier. Sooner or later one such Rima Fakih will fall in love with a non-muslim and will insist that love is more important than conversion. And, the battle will be won. For good. In these best of times, we then have 'the draw Mohammed' campaign. I have no reason to paint and not-paint Mohammed but I cannot be happier that Pakistan had to ban facebook and youtube from being accessed. Paksitani teenagers will not be able to decide whether to hate or love the people who are trying so hard to protect Mohammed. And, Mohammed if he was anyone like the other religious figures (like Krishna, Jesus, Buddha, Nanak, or Rama) must be turning in his grave and must be wondering that this, afterall, is not what he meant when he said that drawing pictures was haram. In his time, digital cameras, printing presses, cheap-as-dirt video cameras were not invented yet. If he were alive today, he would have been the first one to do a podcast on youtube and a fanpage on facebook. And, between all this CAIR's hypocrites are telling us that those who draw Mohammed should be forgiven because Islam is all about forgiveness. Someone should have told that to Atta or Arafat. So Dr Pipes, I won't draw Mohammed today because I do not care to.but I am very happy that finally in this age of instant communication, Islam is saying hello to the world.
