Reader comment on item: Who Lost Turkey?

It seems like you are looking in vain to do everything in your power NOT to blame islam. Why? The elephant in the room is still an elephant. Despite the superficial modernizing of Ataturk's "European-Turkey", the raging beast of islam never went away. The never ending purges and cleansings of the Christian and more recently the Kurdish populations underscore that undeniable reality of the supremacist tyranny of the former caliphate that was never completely extinguished. The ikhwan is still the torchbearer waiting to pass it on to the most powerful or the dumbest ruler willing to reclaim it and a cocky Erdogan has hinted as much. An islamic leader only speaks the truth when he is in a position of strength and feels no need for taqquiya. " There is no moderate islam, that is an insult, islam is isam"........Erdogan. Congressional candidate Allen West calls for an enforced reformation of izlam. That does not seem to work. Turkey, being the best case in point. Geert Wilders calls for a ban on the koran. That is at least a step in the right direction. "As long as this accursed book (the koran) exists, there will never be peace"........William Ewart Gladstone. I am not very optimistic if we in the west feel the need to make excuses and try to rescue islam from it's well deserved and overdue demise.
