Oh sure. Read about Islam (1)

Dear Dr Pipes: How many times do we have to hear that before we criticize the behavior of islamists, we should carefully read Islam? This argument does not stand. Islamic theory can be perfect but what good it is if it is not followed. Islam is what muslims do. And a lot of fundamentalist muslims are painting a very bad picture of Islam. This picture includes the following behaviors: 1) cry babies around the world 2) violence against non-muslims 3) violence against other muslims 4) discriminatory practices against other religions 5) not much to show in terms of education, scientific progress and respect for other religions 6) absence of democracy and peaceful transition of governments.

Islamic scholars and commoners should stand up against the people who bring bad name to their religion in the same vein as Americans protested against the Vietnam war and teh war in Iraq. Once we see crowds of Muslims on the city squares protesting against killing of Muslims and non-muslims in the name of Islam, we wont have to read any books to understand Islam. It is as simple as that.
