The people may ignite the flame, but who carries the torch?Reader comment on item: Mohammed Bouazizi, Historical Figure Submitted by sara (United States), Apr 20, 2011 at 17:58 It is great that there are people rising up against oppressive rule and fighting for liberty and rights. Unfortunately, this concept has been hijacked by Islamist groups who advocate the very same rebellions, but rather than replace tyrrany with freedom, they seek to replace it with Islamist extremism and strict adherence to Sharia law. That is not freedom by any measure, and the administrations of western countries should be extremely wary of supporting these 'rebel groups" who start off with positive intent, but are quickly overtaken by well organized, armed and insiduous Islamists who 'fight for the cause'. We have much to be fearful of in all of these countries where the Muslim Brotherhood (Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Tunisia) and Al Qaeda 'factions' (Libya, Gaza) are rearing their ugly heads. When i saw Qaradawi invited back to Egypt in honor to preach in the square, it was very ominous. The head of the 'rebels' in Jordan, a MB Imam, etc. The despots are despicable, but look at the model of the Islamist Hamas overthrowing the more secular Palestinian Authority- nothing good can come of it. At least the despots have aspirations of greed power and control, the islamists do it all in the name of Allah, and there is no dialog possible. As PM Netanyahu says, there is no deterrence factor when the opponent welcomes death by martyrdom...
