Problems where there is no problem!Reader comment on item: Mohammed Bouazizi, Historical Figure Submitted by Prashant (United States), Apr 25, 2011 at 03:41 Dear Dr Pipes: I was surprised when your reader Maria tried to diminish Mohammed Bouazizi's ultimate sacrifice by bring sexism into it. Why worry about something that cannot be proven or disproved? Reader Maria's letter is purely speculative and thus is counter productive. Was this the only incidence when a man was slapped by a woman in Tunisia? Not every one of such incidences led to self-immolation. And if we must bring sexism into this discourse, is not it great that even in an extremely conservative Tunisian society a woman officer can now slap a poor male fruit vendor. You have come a long way baby as Virginia Slims used to advertise. This was not a feminist issue and let us not make it one. Let us not divert ourselves from the issues.
